Storybook Farm is a non-profit ministry that provides equine assisted activities for children experiencing life-threatening illnesses, cognitive and/or social delays, disabilities and personal tragedy.

Since opening in 2002, our mission has been to unite animals and children to improve physical condition, bolster self-esteem and heal emotional wounds. Since our barn doors opened, we have been immensely blessed to welcome thousands of families from central Alabama west central Georgia to our farm.

Located in Opelika, Ala., Storybook Farm sits on 25 beautiful acres and is home to 16 equines, and more than 10 companion animals. The Main Barn houses 12 stalls, two wash areas, feed/ tack room, library and patio area. This is the hub of all activity and fun where the sounds of laughter and neighing are continuously drifting through its corridors.

Paddington Station Arena
, located behind the Main Barn, invites riders and their favorite horses to learn horsemanship skills taught by a Path International (Professional association of therapeutic horsemanship) certified instructor. The acreage surrounding our barn is divided in to six paddocks where the horses frolic, play and munch grass each day.

In addition to our weekly “hope on horseback” riding programs, Storybook Farm provides avenues where hands-on learning can

flourish.  Inclusive special education classes meet at the Farm once a week to enrich their students' transitional skills.  School buses loaded with exuberant children are eager to meet the animals, and experience life on a farm. Storybook also facilitates field trips for local schools, daycare centers, Girl Scout Troops and church groups.

Families can fellowship with one another during our annual events such as, Easter EGGstravaganza, SBF Rider Horse Show, Fall Festival, and the Christmas Celebration. Another terrific opportunity to meet new friends is at our Forever Families fall event, which celebrates families created through adoption and fostering.

Thanks to generous support, all our programs are provided at no charge to our families. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year.  We welcome work groups, individuals and families to assist with farm chores and session activities.
