Hope Story #47: LaJessa

Born in 1982 with Athetoid Cerebral Palsy, LaJessa's life journey has been a difficult one. Her “story” crossed the path of Storybook's when she first came here seven years ago.

Armed with a smile and kind words, her resolve is mighty and her faith is unwavering. She tells other kids who are going through challenging times, “to keep the faith and never give up. God put you here for a reason."

Her perspective on life is one of integrity, faith and the assurance of God's unfailing love. LaJessa realizes that she is a steward of her Lord's message, and despite her physical condition, liver her life for His Kingdom.

"It could be to help inspire others to do better or to show that no matter what your situation is – you can still be successful," said LaJessa. "We might not know why things happen, but God will never put on us more than we can bear.”

Each week, LaJessa is excited to come to the farm to see all of her friends-volunteers, peers and animals. Storybook strives to create an environment where kids feel welcome and are comfortable with being themselves. A place where people are not judged by appearances or abilities, and she helps with that idea each time she is here.

“Everyone is respectful, friendly, patient and always ready to assist me.," said LaJessa.  "It is a place where I love going and showing what has been taught to me throughout my session."

A huge aspect of LaJessa's experience at Storybook is her closest companion, her 19-year-old Paint Pony, Gulliver's Travels. His strong back and steady gait help give the best support to LaJessa as she strengthens and enjoy her horseback experience.

“I love riding Gulliver because it takes my mind from other things while challenging me to do new things and striving to do my best. Storybook Farm truly is a blessing to all of us and may it continue to do God’s will,” says LaJessa.

A milestone occurred in LaJessa’s life occurred on March of 2011, she received her GED and was encouraged by the support that Storybook gave her even then outside of Paddington Station Arena by attending her graduation. In a heartfelt letter, LaJessa genuinely thanked Storybook and shared her appreciation and love for everything she has received from the Farm.

LaJessa generously shares her inspiration with everyone she meets, and Storybook Farm is a better place thanks to her big smile and even bigger heart.
